Research & Development
Light, understood deeply. Developed with purpose.
At YG UniLUX, product development begins with understanding how light will be used. The space, the installation and the people experiencing it all shape the decisions behind a fitting.
We bring these considerations into our development work, seeking practical improvements in the quality of light and the products that deliver it.
Ikkiso, Japan
Shaping New Products Together
Ikkiso, our research and development partner in Japan, works with us to create and develop new products for YG UniLUX.
Its role connects our understanding of real-world lighting needs with the development of new product solutions. From the initial concept to the details of construction, our focus is on giving each design a clear purpose.
Our Development Focus
Light Where It Belongs
Optical Design
We consider how light reaches a surface, highlights an object and contributes to the surrounding space. Reflectors, lenses and beam distributions are central to creating the intended lighting effect.
Comfort in Every Detail
Visual Comfort
The position of the light source, the depth of the fitting and the design of its shielding all influence the viewing experience. Our aim is to balance useful illumination with visual comfort.
Managing Heat
Thermal Design
Heat management is part of the product’s overall design. Materials, housing geometry and component placement must work together to support reliable operation.
Freedom to Direct Light
Structural & Mechanical Design
Adjustment, mounting and assembly deserve the same attention as appearance. We consider how a fitting moves, holds its position and integrates into its intended environment.
Installation Considered
Practical Product Design
A product must work for the people installing and maintaining it. Available space, connections, mounting arrangements and access to components are important considerations throughout development.
Light Under Control
Electrical & Control Integration
Light sources, drivers and controls need to work together. We consider their compatibility and suitability for the intended application as part of the complete lighting system.
Optical Design & Development
Shaping Light with Purpose
Optics determine how light leaves a fitting, where it falls and how it is experienced. At YG UniLUX, optical design is an important part of the product development we carry out with Ikkiso, our R&D partner in Japan.
We consider the light source, reflector, lens and shielding together, with the aim of creating the right distribution and visual comfort for the intended application.
Beam Control
Considering beam angles and light distributions to suit focused accents, broader illumination and specific spatial requirements.
Reflectors & Lenses
Selecting and developing optical configurations around the light source, product dimensions and desired lighting effect.
Glare Management
Considering source depth, shielding and optical geometry to manage direct views of bright components and improve visual comfort.
Light Quality & Uniformity
Evaluating the illuminated area, beam transitions, colour consistency and unwanted light spill.
Optical Evaluation
Comparing the intended lighting effect with sample performance, then refining the design where needed.
From Idea to Product
Understand
Identify the application, the user’s needs and the practical challenge.
Define
Establish the product requirements and intended lighting performance.
Develop
Bring optical, structural, thermal and electrical considerations into the design.
Prototype
Create samples to examine the design in physical form.
Evaluate & Refine
Review performance and usability, then improve the details.
Prepare for Production
Translate the developed design into clear specifications and production requirements.
Development in Practice
Every Improvement Has a Reason
A development story begins with a specific challenge. By showing the original requirement, the design decisions and the resulting improvement, we make the thinking behind our products visible.
Testing & Refinement
Understanding Through Evaluation
Evaluation connects a design intention with how a product actually performs. It helps identify where further refinement is needed and informs the next stage of development.
Exploring Intelligent Lighting
AI Lighting · In Development
At YG UniLUX, we are working on AI lighting, exploring how artificial intelligence can help light respond more thoughtfully to the way people use their spaces.
Our aim is to make lighting more intuitive, adaptable and easier to manage—bringing our understanding of light together with new possibilities in intelligent control.
This work is still in development. Our focus remains practical: how technology can improve the everyday experience of light.
